The company Meschter Metalltechnik was been awarded a project to design and construct a treehouse high on an oak tree. The spiral staircase of the treehouse needed to penetrate an existing building below from which you would gain access to the staircase. Sounds like a project nightmare! How do you measure and model a tree in CAD? Conventional measurements are certainly out of the question. How do you determine all splines, angles and stair connections in reference to each other? The answer is Flexijet 3D of course!
The construction company engaged Carsten Thomas to create a 3D CAD model of the existing oak tree using the Flexijet 3D laser measuring system. Flexijet 3D enabled Carsten to collect all relevant measurement data including the stem and branches of the oak tree and the connecting building below. This was accomplished without the use of ladders, ropes or scaffolding. Within only 2.5 hours, measurements were safely completed from ground level providing highly accurate dimensions, exact angles and splines.
